Text describes ceremonies by which the Tupinamba, also known as the Tuppin Imba or Tupi, kill their captives.This image follows the special title page for Hans Staden, De voorname Scheeps-togten van Jan Staden van Homburg in Hessen, na Brazil ... , Leiden, 1706, and is similar to Theodor de Bry, America, part 3, p. 125 & 212. This collection of voyages consists of 127 parts, each having a special title page, separate pagination, and register. The voyages covering the period from 1246 to 1696 are arranged chronologically.
