notes:
Text describes describes Hans Staden trying to escape on a French ship. When he reached the ship, the sailors struck him away and Staden swam back to shore, saying that he only wanted to tell the French that they should get many goods to give to his captors. This image follows the special title page for Hans Staden, De voorname Scheeps-togten van Jan Staden van Homburg in Hessen, na Brazil ... , Leiden, 1706. This collection of voyages consists of 127 parts, each having a special title page, separate pagination, and register. The voyages covering the period from 1246 to 1696 are arranged chronologically.
