Only slaves engaged in this quarrying. [bottom] Text describes the difficulty of such a crossing and identifies the location as Corityba, now Curitiba, the capital city of the Brazilian state of Paraná.The lithographs in this book were made from drawings made by Debret during his fifteen-year residence (1816-1831) in Brazil.
