notes:
The tigers were probably the jaguars, Panthera onca. Their hunters are identified in the text as Paulistes or Paulistas (inhabitants of São Paulo, Brazil), who were particularly adept with the lasso. Text states that horses and lassos were used on the plains, but dogs and guns were used in the forest.Image placed horizontally on page. The lithographs in this book were made from drawings made by Debret during his fifteen-year residence (1816-1831) in Brazil.
