[top] Angou is a thick soup made from manioc, pieces and organs of beef, and various vegetables. The location depicted is the fish market. [bottom] Lime was created by layering combustible material, here wood, with shells to form a kind of oven.The lithographs in this book were made from drawings made by Debret during his fifteen-year residence (1816-1831) in Brazil.
