The first part contains the first part of Pierre Bouguer, La figure de la terre, Paris, 1749, which contains an account of Bouguer's scientific mission to Peru (actually, present-day Ecuador) which he took with Charles Marie de La Condamine to measure a degree of the meridian near the equator.
