notes:
Text states that these native Americans inhabited southern Brazil and attacked their victims at night. The pine branch, itself highly flammable, was used to ignite the dwellings of the settlements being attacked thus forcing the inhabitants out.The lithographs in this book were made from drawings made by Debret during his fifteen-year residence (1816-1831) in Brazil.Image placed horizontally on page.Lithographer is probably Charles Etienne Pierre Motte (French printmaker and draftsman, 1785-1836).
