notes:
|
Founded in 1635 by the French and once a primary economic center of Martinique, Saint Pierre was destroyed by the volcano eruption of Mount Pelée in 1902. This edition was compiled by Awnsham and John Churchill. The artist may be Johannes Kip (1663-1722), a Dutch draftsman and engraver, active in Great Britain, although this book was published after his death.
