notes:
|
This image is derived from the second part of Theodor de Bry's America. Pt. 2, plate 34, and describes how the natives sacrifice their first-born son to their chief in Florida. The mother whose child it is weeps in front of the tree trunk upon which the sacrifice is to occur. The engraver may be Johann Michael Zell, 1740-1815.
