notes:
The agouti, Dasyprocta agouti, is a tropical rodent and is here shown being hunted by men who are smoking it out of a log in which it has taken refuge. The strangler fig, Ficus destruens, begins life as a epiphyte in the branches of a host tree. It sends out roots that root in the soil beneath the host and begin to grow around the trunk of the host tree which eventually dies. The calabash tree, Crescentia cujete, produces large spherical fruit used by native Americans as containers.
