Laso de la Vega was governor of Chile from 1629 to 1639. Luis de Cordova was appointed governor of Chile in 1625 by his uncle, Diego Fernandez de Cordova, who was viceroy of Mexico and Peru, and he served as governor until 1629. Francisco López de Zúñiga, marqués de Baides, governor of Chile from 1639 to 1646, was responsible for the Treaty of Quillín which established the territory between the Mapuches and the Spanish at the Río Biobío in Chile and which briefly established peace after the Araucanian Wars.
