notes:
The first spinning jenny seen in America was exhibited in Philadelphia and was constructed by Tully after the plan of James Hargreaves. Hargreaves, a carpenter and weaver, invented a machine (named after his daughter) which spun thread. He did not apply for a patent for his machine until 1770; before that time others freely copied his machine. The Pennsylvania Magazine was only published from January 1775 through July 1776. The July 1776 issue included the first magazine printing of the Declaration of Independence.
