notes:
|
Text describes the storms which drove Columbus "on the coast of Jamaica, where his little crazy fleet was wrecked, on the 24th of June, 1503." Columbus's last trip to America in 1503 was made to vindicate his reputation, but it was not a success. He lost one ship, the Gallega, in the Belén River in Panama. He scuttled the leaky Vizcaina near Portobelo, and later abandoned his last two ships, the Capitana and the Santiago, in Jamaica. Image placed horizontally on page.
