In 1793 the French frigate, Ambuscade, engaged the British frigate, Boston, in a battle in which the Boston was heavily damaged and her captain killed. After the battle the Ambuscade sailed into New York harbor. Drayton mentions drawing the liberty cap on the fore-top-gallant-mast head. Image placed horizontally on page.
