notes:
|
Blackbeard, born Edward Drummond, may also have been called Edward Thatch. He was one of the most feared of all the pirates and he practised his profession along the North Carolina coast. He was known for twisting matches in his hair and setting them alight. This work is often attributed to Defoe based on textual relationship to works of Defoe's proven authorship together with supporting external evidence. It also has also been attributed to Charles Johnson.
