notes:
|
The Constituent Congress of Peru voted on February 12, 1825, to have a medal struck in its Lima mint to honor Simón Bolívar for his services at the victory of the Battle of Ayacucho, December 9, 1824. Only 259 recorded copies were made of this gold medal and many do not survive to this day. The only other copy of this medal located in a public institution is in the Museo Bolivariano, Caracas. This medal was accompanied by a diploma (signed in full by Simón Bolívar, as Libertador Presidente de la República de Colombia), presented to Lieutenant José Antonio Espina, at La Paz, September 4, 1825, also in the Bromsen collection at the John Carter Brown Library.
