notes:
Lescalet was a cabin boy on the warship Le Sceptre in the fleet of Admiral François de Grasse. In February 1782, a fleet of 50 French ships laid siege to the British garrison at Fort George, otherwise known as Brimstone Hill or the Gibraltar of the West Indies. After a month's siege, the English surrendered, but were allowed to leave as an undefeated force in full uniform in honor of their valiant defense of the island.
