notes:
Area depicted is now included in present-day Mexico City. In the early 1400s Tezcuco, Mexico, and Tlacopan formed a powerful league that grew by conquest. By the time of the Spanish invasion, Tezcuco was under the control of Tenochtitlan, but was still powerful. Lake Texcoco (as it is now known) once covered much of the ground now occupied by Mexico City. Cuyioacan (or Coyoacan) may be where Hernán Cortés lived. Suchimilco (or Xochimilco) was the site of a famous battle won by Cortés.
