View of a church or mission on a hill. Bartlett describes the church as "an old mission at the head of the San Miguel River, which was abandoned about six years before in consequence of the inroads of the Apache."

Related drawings: JRB099. Personal Narrative derivative: none. This drawing is contained in a commercial Drawing Book. The village that Santiago y Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Cocóspera was in was abandoned in 1845 after a series of Apache attacks. The church is now in ruins.
