Narrative description: 
View of a village with church and dwellings on a hill. The sketch is incomplete. The top center is marked "wood cut" and other notations abound—"Fence made of branches of trees and brush;" "group of Mexicans talking here;" "Pack mules preparing to leave;" "4 waggons 12 tents in four rows;" " Women carrying water on their heads;" "campfire and cooking;" "Mexicans about." The center foreground is occupied in the Personal Narrative woodcut by a group of men preparing to slaughter an ox.
