Narrative description:
View overlooking the Pimo villages with the Gila River in the distance. Pima Butte is in the center of the view, with the Superstition and related mountains in the background. The title on the back reads, "Arizona View overlooking Pinto Village."This watercolor was used as the basis for the woodcut in Personal Narrative (vol. 2, p. 248), but there are major differences in detail. The woodcut has several people added to it, including an artist with a beard. In addition, at the base of the hill is a long train of men, horse, mules, and wagons. In fact, the woodcut may be based on the related drawing JCB072, rather than this watercolor.
