Historical notes:
|
Known as the Stevens-Brown map, this map closely resembles the first modern map in the supplement to Ptolemy, Geographia, Strasbourg, 1513, but is printed from a different woodblock and is thought to also be made by Martin Waldseemüller. Skelton, after a review of the Stevens evidence, concludes that this map, which was printed but never published, was printed at Nuremberg circa 1507, "in a trial verson," intended for the Ptolemy Geographia, but not included in it when it was published in 1513.
