Historical notes:
The battle of Bunker's Hill, actually conducted at Breed's Hill, resulted in a dearly-bought British victory. Despite losing the battle, and thus control of Boston to the British, the campaign was seen as the first step towards American independence.Dr. Joseph Warren, prominent Boston physician, was commisioned major general, but chose to fight as a private under Colonel William Prescott, and died at this battle. His redoubt is shown on this plan.Image placed horizontally on page.
