Historical notes:
|
This map is a presentation piece, dedicated to the Viceroy of New Spain, Agustín de Ahumada y Villalón (1755-58). The historical symbol of Mexico is the eagle and serpent on a cactus. The main purpose of this piece was to acquaint the new Viceroy with the extent of his empire and its relationship with the rest of North America.
