This 1626 map is the first map published in an atlas to depict California as an island. It also shows an accurate east coast of North America. The plate for this map was purchased by Thomas Bassett and Richard Chiswell who published the older map in their 1676 edition of John Speed's Prospect (bound with Speed's Theatre of the empire of Great Britain).
