The author of this voyage, Jean-Pierre Bechaud, arrived in Saint-Domingue during the expedition commanded by Rochambeau after the death of General Leclerc. The voyage covers the evacuation of the French forces from the island in 1803, and his travels through Cuba and Charlestown, South Carolina before his return to France in 1804
