notes:
This view shows Philadelphia as it was circa 1735. Taken from George Heap's original drawing of "An East Prospect of the City of Philadelphia," of 1754 (the engraving of which was printed in four sheets which together combined to measure an image nearly seven feet wide), this print eliminated a section of Philadelphia shoreline below Market Street and lowered the horizon. The views of American towns engraved by Carwitham were included in a collection of views published by John Bowles, which are known as Scenographia Americana, a collection of previously issued prints. The views in these prints were made from drawings that were drawn on the spot, often by military artists. This print is held separately.
