Text discusses the Touvingas who were Surinamese blacks of a particular tribe or nation.Hartsinck, a director of the Dutch West India Company (VOC), had access to many VOC documents now lost, as well as to the papers of his father (who had been director of the Surinam Society for 25 years). He was also an official of the Admiralty in Amsterdam and a member of the Zeeland Academy of Sciences.
