A monk writes in an open book while an allegorical figure leaning on a pillar addresses him. Behind her is another figure holding an armillary sphere. Also includes a black man [slave?] kneeling before the monk, a woman holding a basket with tubers in it, a man taking a sighting with navigational instrument or a cross-staff, Neptune on a chariot with sea horses and triton, ship, and fortifications. Also includes bird, palm tree, compass, and dividers.
