Description:
Man hands another man money for the purchase of a slave. The woman, chained with a collar around her neck and ankle, weeps. Also includes harbor scene, fortification, ship, slaves unloading casks, and boxes on shore.

The image is probably based upon the story of Yarico, a native American woman, and Inkle, her lover and an English sailor, who allegedly duped her and sold her into slavery in Barbados. Raynal, an Enlightenment philosopher, wrote of the horrors of slavery
