In reaction to the Tea Act of 1773, which gave English merchants a virtual monopoly over the sale of tea in the colonies, Bostonians dressed as Mohawk Indians rowed out to East India ships loaded with tea and threw the cargo into the harbor on the evening of December 16, 1773. Image placed horizontally on page.
