Geographical description:
Plan of Port-au-Prince, Saint Domingue, present-day Haiti. Cartographic elements include compass rose, soundings, scale, some topographic details, and location of roads, buildings, gardens and fortifications. Place of publication and name of printer from bottom left side of map. Prime meridian: Paris. Bar scale given in toises. Relief given pictorially. Depths indicated by soundings. Oriented with north to the right as indicated by fleur-de-ly. Table of references identifies major features.

Almost identical map, dated 1785, appears in: Recueil de vues des lieux principaux de la colonie françoise de Saint-Domingue, engraved by Nicolas Ponce and printed in Paris, 1791, which was intended to accompany Description topographique, physique, civile, politique et historique de la partie française de l'isle Saint-Domingue, by Médéric Louis Elie Moreau de Saint-Méry, printed in two volumes in Philadelphia in 1797-1798. John Carter Brown Library copy has printed on verso of map an imperfect and trimmed copy of: A chart of Delaware Bay and river, containing a full and exact description of the shores, creeks, harbours, soundings, shoals, sands, and bearings of the most considerable land marks, from the capes to Philadelphia taken from the original chart published at Philadelphia by Joshua Fisher, printed London, November 1776
