Geographical description:
Map of South America showing the lands within the limits of the South Sea Company. Includes inset maps of Valdivia [Chile], the harbor of Guayaquil [Ecuador], the island of Chiloe [Chile], the harbor of Acapulco [Mexico], the settlement of Amapala on the golfo de Fonseca [bordering present-day Honduras and El Salvador], the golfo de Nicoya or Salinas [present-day Costa Rica], the Galapagos Islands, the island of Juan Fernandez, the isthmus of Panama, the island of Pypeses or Pepys [nonexistent], a chart of the Atlantic Ocean, and a map of the Estrecho de Magellanes [or Strait of Magellan]. Geographical elements include lines of latitude and longitude, indication of trade wind direction, location of rivers, settlements, and capes, sea banks or shoals, some topographical details, and compass roses. Decorative elements include small decorative cartouche with angels holding palm leaves and a coat of arms.

Moll, along with his colleagues, Daniel Defoe, William Dampier and Woodes Rogers, shared and promoted a vision of South Sea development bolstered in large part by Moll's maps of the region. The South Sea Company, charted by Parliament in 1711, was actually conceived by John Paterson, a Scot who also conceived the Bank of England.The inset maps at top are pasted onto map.The map may be taken from Moll's The world described, [London], [1709-1736]. It is also included in A view of the coasts, countries and islands within the limits of the South-Sea-Company, London, 1711.
