Historical notes:
Moll, along with his colleagues, Daniel Defoe, William Dampier and Woodes Rogers, shared and promoted a vision of South Sea development bolstered in large part by Moll's maps of the region. The South Sea Company, charted by Parliament in 1711, was actually conceived by John Paterson, a Scot who also conceived the Bank of England. The inset maps at top are pasted onto map.The map may be taken from Moll's The world described, [London], [1709-1736]. It is also included in A view of the coasts, countries and islands within the limits of the South-Sea-Company, London, 1711.
