Historical notes:
This map, also published in Gentleman's Magazine, August, 1753, here includes the first illustration of the State House in Philadelphia. The map was issued before the State House was completed, and Scull, surveyor general of Pennsylvania, and Heap, a surveyor and city coroner of Philadelphia, apparently worked from architectural plans to depict the unfinished belfry.
