notes:
King James is shown with his son, Prince Charles, symbolizing the unification of Scotland with England. On the other side is shown Queen Elizabeth and Prince Henry [HP]. Between the two are scenes of the Israelites marching towards a vision of the New Jerusalem, the defeat of the Armada (with a nod towards Queen Elizabeth for her role). The storehouse with gunpowder and the date, November 5, refers to Guy Fawkes' Gunpowder plot. King James believed that his perspicacity was instrumental in uncovering the plot. This added engraved title page was apparently not ready when the book was first published and is only included in some copies.
